"Somewhere there is a special place, a place of solitude and healing, peace and introspection. This is what I replicate for the viewer in my work. By harnessing the energies
that exist within the four boundaries of the picture frame, and with careful manipulation of tone, color, value and subject, a landscape evolves with a special
luminenscence that invites the viewer to wander along a predetermined pathway through the work." - Linda Gross Brown
Linda Gross Brown received her B.F.A. in Graphic Design and Illustration. She then went on in her studies to receive her M.A. in painting, with both degrees earned from Kent State University. She was able to study design, color theory, painting and other skills with William Harper, Joseph O'Sickey, Morton Grossman, Joan Gardner and Leroy Flint, among others. After receiving her Master's degree, Linda began to explore the potential of painting with soft pastels. She currently concentrates her focus of exploration within that medium. Anyone who sees one of Linda's pieces can immediately tell that she has found her home in that pastel medium. Her gifted touch and eye applied to a pastel pencil has yielded a tremendous body of hauntingly beautiful artwork.

It is clear that Linda's works are at home in New York City. She was invited in after her very first knock on New York City's door in 2009 and was an immediate success, receiving the Gold Medal of Honor at the Allied Artistsof America's 96th Annual Exhibition and the Gold Medal at the Salmagundi Art Club New York Annual
Members Exhibition). There was no pause in applause during 2010, when she again received a round of medals in these prestigious New York City shows. She and her fans saluted one of her most loved and award-winning pieces, "Footsteps #1," good-bye as it was sold in a NYC show to a private collector.

Linda Gross Brown has received a prestigious place in the International Association of Pastel Societies Master's Circle. It is an honor that few artists receive and even fewer receive it so early in their career as Linda has. Just another meaningful event that surrounds Linda Gross Brown and her beautiful body of artwork.

The growing momentum of applause and excitement around Linda
Gross Brown has reached European shores in record time. After incredible success throughout 2009 with the end
of the year proving to be the pinnacle in New York City (including the Gold Medal of Honor at the Allied Artistsof America's 96th Annual Exhibition and the Gold Medal at the Salmagundi Art Club New York Annual
Members Exhibition), the French art magazine "Pratique des Arts" approached Linda this spring with an exciting
request.
Journalist Laurent Benoist asked that she submit several of her works to be considered for the June 2010 special
issue of the magazine highlighting pastel artists of the world. And naturally, she received her place in the issue.
Her award-winning paintings "Footsteps #1" and "Treehaven #1" appear in the
magazine.

One cannot see Linda's paintings without immediately wondering how she works her magic. How do her eyes register things? How does she recreate a scene she felt in real life and bathe it in the same light in her painting? Make it a place where you want to go on a quiet morning or a magical evening or a thoughtful afternoon? Writer, James A. Metcalfe, of American Artist Magazine, has given us the opportunity to find out - a window into Linda's world and talented mind - by interviewing her and revealing the story and the insights he gained in his investigations in the December 2009 issue of American Artist Magazine.
